HFSS SCORE CALCULATOR
High fat, sugars and salt (HFSS) foods are under fire from the Government. Marketing of these so-called ‘less healthy’ or even ‘junk’ products, according to your slant, is being curtailed.
There are three main areas for retail that this affects: product placement, product advertising and product offers. Foods that score 4 or more points and drinks that score one or more points are categorised as HFSS.
NutriCalc® nutrition software will calculate the HFSS score for your recipes and if any are HFSS, enable you to identify and then reduce or substitute the offending ingredients, in order to reformulate your recipes to be non-HFSS.

5-a-Day
Five-a-Day is a UK healthy eating initiative, encouraging people to eat five portions of fruit and/or vegetables each day.
Some food products contain several fruits and/or vegetables and, although there may not be enough of any single one to constitute a Five-a-Day portion, the sum of all of them can constitute a good contribution to the intake of fruit and vegetables.
NutriCalc calculates Five-a-Day portion sizes in line with industry guidelines.
These guidelines give Five-a-Day portion sizes for fruits and vegetables, juices, dried ingredients and concentrates.
Auto-adjust
If you have an ingredient with known nutrition information and you want to create a second with a different % fat you can create a copy of the first and then tweak the values.
Using NutriCalc’s auto-adjust function will take care of all these other values.
This feature can be useful if you have received a rather limited set of values for an ingredient, but you can base it on another similar one.
Ice Cream Overrun
Ice cream products often have nutrition information expressed as ‘per 100ml’, because ice cream has air homogenised within it. The percentage of air added to the product is known as overrun.
NutriCalc makes adjustments using the content of the ice cream to obtain the specific gravity and applies those to the nutrition values per 100g in order to obtain values per 100ml.
Improve Data Quality
Some suppliers offer excellent and reliable nutrition information for their products, however many supplier product information sheets often provide either very limited or very poor-quality information depending upon their source.

Official Meat Content
NutriCalc provides a list of over 400 ingredients for many cuts of meat with various VL ratios for beef, lamb, mutton and pork.
It also has various cuts for chicken and turkey, such as breast, leg, skin and thigh. These can be entered into the recipe and the ingredient declaration obtained shows a report for meat content, together with inclusion of the meats in the ingredient declaration.
Prior to the UK Meat Products Regulations 2003, practically any part of an animal added to a food product, including bone, could be declared as meat.
Those Regulations, however, exclude various parts of the animal including offal (kidney, liver etc.) as well as mechanically-recovered meat (MRM) from being included in the meat declaration.
The Regulations now restrict the amount of fat and connective tissue that can be present in the meat component of the food. And excess fat and/or connective tissue now needs to be put into the ingredient declaration.
Fruit Content of Preserves
The official fruit content of preserves is a feature available to subscribers of all NutriCalc Online Plans. If you manufacture jams, marmalades, chutneys, preserves and so on, NutriCalc will work out your official fruit content to be declared on the label in accordance with the Jam and Similar Products Regulations 2003.
